The Hippest Food Park: The Yard at Xavierville
Unless you're living in a cave or has not been online for the past month, you've probably already heard about The Yard. The another addition to the booming food parks around and outside the metro. And being me that always wants to try out new food scenes, me and the boyf braved the Sunday rain to try and see what's the fuss about this food park and how is it different from the others we've tried.
For starters, and for those who're not aware of its existence, The Yard is I think one of biggest food parks I've tried. Its design is made up of shipping containers and has over 30 food stalls to choose from. Most of these are new and are already on the rage over social media. But yeah, I won't be able to write down all the food choices here because apparently I don't have the appetite to try all the food stands in one visit. But I'll try to update this post whenever we try something new in The Yard. For now, I'll just narrate our experience and how we see it as an effective hang out spot for food lovers out there.
I guess you can say that it already gain a plus points for the unique design and for actually offering 30 food stalls. But what is a 30 food stall food park if it really can't cater to the consumers?
As what I've said, we went here Sunday night and it was raining due to the typhoon but we braved it anyway so it better not disappoint us. HAHA. There are limited parking spaces outside. So if you're going here by driving your own car, better prepare for finding a parking space. Upon going inside, the place is already jam packed and given that it's raining, I didn't expect it to be so crowded.. so if it's this crowded during rainy days, what more on normal days? There are a lot of tables but if not drenched in the rain, it is already occupied. So it was already a challenge to find a spot especially if you're in a big group. Good thing though is there are also seats on the second floor of some stalls so we managed to sit in a table that can accommodate me and the boyf.
People eating and waiting.
After finding our seat, we then look for a stall where we can buy our food. So this is kinda challenging as well because what I noticed is the food stalls serve its food for a minimum of 30 minutes! And I'm not exaggerating that. Maybe because there are a lot of customers. But hey, I think they should be prepared enough to cater these number of people. I also wasn't able to take photos of the food a la flat lay because we then have to wait for all the food to be served.. and it means waiting for almost an hour with some of the food already cooling up and has sparkled rain water. LOL. I think that's one main valid point, right? But if you're with your friends and you don't mind waiting for your food and you're really not hungry then there's no problem at all.
And these are the food we managed to try on our first visit:
Epicure. They don't actually serve food but they serve alcoholic drinks. From beers to cocktails. You name them.
Yakitori from Niku-Q. I really liked this one. This is actually the fastest stall that prepared our order.
The famous Dip N' Dough. What can I say? Well, aside from that it's really instagrammable and will make you crave for it when you see it in photos, it's really yummy and delicious when you get to taste it in personal. It's kinda heavy too because maybe of the dough used. I liked that when we get to try this, it was fresh from the doughnut maker (if that's how you call it). But, but, but.. this is the slowest to prepare your order. After we found our seat, I went straight to this stall to try the famous cone donut only to find out that we have to wait for 45 minutes. I guess, it's okay so I said we'll wait. So what supposed to be an appetizer turns out to be a desert. haha! I'm not complaining though, who eats an ice cream for appetizer? I guess this is just a heads up for all you folks who wants to try this. Place your orders early so you can enjoy this after eating your main meal.
Chimney Supreme! <3 Just look at the cinnamon powder. :p~~
We also tried Takami where we ordered their okonomiyaki that's good for 4 people. And btw, this is just me and my boyfriend so we cannot really finish this. This reminds me of the okonomiyaki my tito cooks only that his okonomiyaki is much more yummy. hehe! Also, it's a little bit burnt so there's a bitter taste to it.
And who else can forget about the juice that's placed in a fish bowl? Quite a unique idea.
One of things I liked.. wings!! But unfornately, I forgot the name of the store. HUHU sorry. But yeah, as long as its wings, I don't have any problems with it. My love for wings is never ending. <3
Rice meal for the boyf so we ordered Salisbury steak from the Rustic Box. It was juicy! I liked it too but the boyf commented that it tastes normal. But I disagree!
Our messy table! It was such a hassle you know! Especially that it's raining and the raindrops are pouring over the food.
Me and my date. <3 heehe.
What I can say as an improvement maybe is they can put on probably plastic cover on the second floor areas so when it rains, it won't wet the people. Also, serving time! Serving time is very crucial, at least for me. I tend to lose my patience that easily.
But overall, I will still suggest this! Just don't get deceived by the pictures of food you find online because you might get disappointed. I would also love to come back because hey, it's 30 freaking food stalls!!! And I think I haven't tried the best ones yet! Wait for me! haha!
Pieces of advice: Be really prepared to get wet when coming here during rainy days. Prepare to wait for your food for more that 30 minutes. Bring your barkada so you can chitchat while waiting for the food. Bring lots of patience actually. I guess I can say good food requires a lot of waiting. haha! And as for the price. We shell out almost 1k for all the foods I've mentioned above. Not bad, I guess.. because it was already plenty.
Also, I've heard they're conceptualizing a The Yard 2.0 around Pasig.. who else is excited? Hihi.

cool place to eat! that okonomiyaki looks... yummy..
ReplyDeleteWow this place looks so vibrant. I bet eating there was so much fun as the atmosphere looks so great! It's a shame the pictures on the website are not what you got but the chimney ice cream looks so delicious!!
ReplyDeleteI love and hate the fact that my old hangout (well, the area anyway) turned out to be close to Maginhawa and now this! Wow, it's like all the best in Luzon came and decided to fill everyone's appetite and cravings. If there's going to be one in Pasig, the better! I'd love to get back home and munch on those wings and Okonomiyaki as soon as possible, rain or shine!
ReplyDeleteLooks nice. Now I am very hungry hahaha. If I lived close enough I would definitely try it. I just don't have a lot patience haha. I recently went to a food truck festival. That was also very awesome,
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of the Yard! It sounds like a great idea. I personally love okonomiyaki and eat it all the time when I am in Japan. But the Chimney Surprise looks yummy too!
ReplyDeleteOkonomiyaki. Looks good. Sana you could also publish the prices. Anyway, it is also possible na because it was raining, kaya napuno ng husto ang Yard is because there were those passing time? Last week at CBTL Greenbelt, during the massive traffic jam because of monsoon rains, it was already past midnight the queue at the cafe was still long. No let up sa rain, no let up din sa taong nag order ng coffee.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the concept of the Yard is very nice. Parang iyan na ang uso talaga ngayon. Same as the weekly food stalls sa mga parks.

Wow! This is a bit near my place! I wish we could visit here one day. This takes me back to my regular visit to Banchetto in Ortigas back when I was still working there. This place is awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove exploring these kinds of food parks and food markets. I wish we had this concept here at my hometown. The foods look delicious. Will look forward for more of your updates about this place :)
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing about this already and seeing this from my friends' posts on social media. It's really a nice place. Various food stops and food shacks that cater various food stuff. Photos are really great and awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristine! :D
DeleteI saw this in another blog and it's really a great concept.. i just wonder, do you have to eat your orders on different stalls? or you can bring all the foods from different stalls in one table? Yay! That ice cream looks really delicious!
ReplyDeleteYou can bring all the food from different stalls into one table. :)
DeleteThank you for visiting my blog! Comments are very much appreciated. :)
